Description
Lagenweine wines are characterised by first-class vineyards with unique characteristics and optimal growing conditions. Wines that receive the title ‘Erste Lage’ come from these classified vineyards and are at least Spätlese level. The vines in these vineyards have deep roots. The soil of the Engehöller Bernstein vineyard gives the dry Riesling its minerality. Brown and grey slate dominate here at almost 100 per cent.
The vintage:
The 2002 wine year was outstanding in the Middle Rhine region. A cool, prolonged spring delayed flowering and budding, but promoted harmonious vine development. The warm, mostly dry summer with occasional rain favoured optimal grape ripening. A mild, dry autumn allowed for a late and healthy harvest. Riesling in particular benefited from the long ripening period and the balanced sugar-acid structure. The wines show high quality and remarkable ageing potential.
Description:
The 2002 Engehöller Bernstein semi-dry is an elegant, light to medium-bodied Riesling. The sweetness is balanced and the lively acidity is still noticeable. Typical aromas are citrus, green apple, peach and apricot, often slightly floral and mineral. Secondary notes of honey and dried fruit are round, soft and complex.
