Description
Oberwesel is located in the middle of the romantic world cultural heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley. Medieval Oberwesel stands for the origin of Riesling culture on the Rhine and still lives it today. Winemaking has been a tradition in the Lanius family for over 250 years. We produce racy and elegant Rieslings, fruity and mineral with high aging potential.
This Riesling GG comes from our best vineyard, the Oberweseler Oelsberg. In steep slopes with up to 75% incline, the vines grow here directly byside the Rhine. The Oelsberg is characterized by the interplay of slate, loess clay and red sandstone. Together with a microclimate predestined for Riesling, this gives the wine a distinctive independence. The Riesling from the Oelsberg is characterized by a great fragrance and exuberant character. At the same time it is less mineral but rather soft and opulent. In the foreground are an exotic fruit aromas and spicy notes.
Vintage description 2001
2001 was a very good to first-class vintage. The grapes ripened early in a hot August, the cooling and sufficient rain in September promoted a slower, steady development of the flavours and a sustained good acidity, the very warm October ensured a high degree of ripeness.
