Description
Lagenweine are characterized by first-class vineyards with an individual character, where optimal growing conditions prevail. Wines that are awarded the title “Erste Lage” come from these classified wineyard and have at least a late harvest level. The vines root quite deeply in these sites. The soil of the Engehöller Bernstein site therefore gives the dry Riesling its minerality. Brown and gray slate dominate here by almost 100 percent. The connoisseur will notice this in the elegance and the unmistakable peach note of the wine.
Directly opposite the Oberwesel Schönburg castle, the grapes can sunbathe in the southeast exposure of the side valley for a long time. The result is Riesling, which was harvested a little later with 100 degrees Oechsle. This is also the origin of the ripe aromas, which make the wine very harmonious.
Vintage description 2008
The vintage with the long ripening period. Due to the warm spring, the vines blossomed around two weeks earlier than normal, but ripening and harvesting began as normal. During the ripening period, the must weights increased rather cautiously and the acidity was reduced only slowly.
