Description

Oberwesel is situated in the center of the romantic world heritage site upper middle rhine valley. The mediveal Oberwesel stands for the origin of Riesling culture on the rhine and is still vividly portraying it to date. In our estate, we craft powerful yet elegant Rieslings – fruity, mineral, and with high aging potential. Wines from a single vineyard show unique character and come from classified vineyards with ideal growing conditions. Premier cru wines come from these vineyards and have at least Spätlese quality. A bit further into the valley where the Engehöller Bernstein is, lies the Engehöller Goldemund. The soil in the Engehöller Goldemund is a unique combination of grey slate and quartzite, with a relatively high amount of clay. The wines are fruity and precise, and still incredibly young even after years of aging.

The vintage 2001:

After the difficult 1990s and the mixed Millennium vintage of 2000, 2001 was once again a very good to excellent vintage.
The grapes ripened early in a hot August, the cooling and sufficient rain in September promoted a slower, steady development of the aromas and a persistently good acidity, the very warm golden October ensured a high degree of ripeness. The wines are particularly harmonious!
